The Great Commission

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel. . .etc. (see Matthew 28:19-20). We don't! At least not many of us do. We keep talking about being "Great Commission Churches" and yet the commission goes unheeded by almost everyone.

Ever wonder why? Simple! We have never adopted the "great commandment." (see Matthew 22:36-39)

Going follows lloving Him. Teaching follows lloving them. It's not that we have the cart before the horse; we've got no horse.

That's what Christ-centered preaching provides! A horse to pull our carts. Plant and water us with explicitly gospel-based edification and exhortation regularly and God will give a harvest of workers who will plant and water the gospel to whom he will give a harvest of souls and even more soul-winners!

John Newton said, "The more you know him, the more you will trust him; the more you trust him, the more you will love him; the more you love him, the more you will serve him!"

I guess that means that we don't evangelize because we don't love Jesus (like you said); but then he goes on to mean we don't love Jesus because we don't trust Jesus; and we don't trust Jesus because we--WE!--don't know Jesus!

Learn all you "CAN" about Jesus, through preaching and teaching and prayerful personal and family study of God's Word, "CAN" all you get, and give the "CAN" away!

"Sir, we would see Jesus!"
