Finding Jesus

I probably should not have laughed last night when Jay Leno said something like, "Nicole Richie was sentenced to 82 minutes in jail. 82 minutes? She didn't even have time to find Jesus."

Paris Hilton, Michael Vick (and the list goes on) "find Jesus" when the chips are down. Did you know Alice Cooper and Jane Fonda are "outspoken" Christians? I say, "Welcome to the family! Praise God for His incredible, marvelous, saving GRACE!

Now, we need to see the beginnings of a changed life. We need to see the old things pass away, and the new things come. We need to see a walk worthy of your calling. And I'll help you get there as best I can. So will a multitude of others. Let us know how we can help.

Then there's Anne Rice, author of "Interview with a Vampire," who studies much history to authenticate her novels and when she got around to studying ancient history she got sidetracked on "the historical Jesus," and discovered that the traditional view of the Jesus of the New Testament is true and that the modern, critical, liberal version of "the historical Jesus," is utterly irresponsible scholarship. She at least believes in the Jesus of the Bible, but as Protestants, we may dissatisfied that it merely led her to renew her Roman Catholic faith and practice. No evidence that she's embraced a gospel by God's grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Same goes for Paris. But it is pretty cool that she was able to detect the bad scholarship of liberal theologians.

John,
We both know that there are a lot of "celebrities" out there who have "found Jesus." I wonder if they have "embraced the cross?" It is not my intent (nor job) to judge their beliefs or actions. I only want to make sure that others are not sucked into some malestrom of religion that does not save to the uttermost.

Have you noticed that it has become increasingly popular to announce ones belief in God or that one is a "born again Christian" by more and more "public figures"?
(The infamous football player, Vick, among others.)
We aren't judges, but maybe we can be fruit inspectors?

Thanks for your comment. Jesus did say, "by their fruit shall you know them."
We, of course, need to pray for those who have made a genuine decision to follow Christ. Heaven knows the world will attempt to destroy any witness they might have.

You are certainly correct. I think the greatest value of Anne Rice's "conversion" lies mostly in the academic aspect of the historicity of the true Jesus of Nazareth, more than any "faith" on my part in her "faith" in Christ. I hope she has a true, saving, living faith (alone) which rests in Christ (alone), in the Protestant, biblical sense; however, I'm not banking on it. Same goes for many celebs.

On that note, I can't wait until I learn what denomination Brother Alice associates with, that I may have a greater understanding of the relative orthodoxy of his profession. But in his life AND music, I see evidence of spiritual transformation, though this requires charity to assess it as such. I hope others assess my own evidence of transformation with as much charity!

John,
Some transformations are more apparent than others. I will wait with you on "Brother Alice." As for you -- Keep the Faith!
